After failing to enter a prestigious university for the second time to the dismay of her overbearing mother, Sung Joo enlists in the army dreaming of a whole new world. Her boyfriend In Pyo congratulates her on her new-found independence the night before she leaves for the training camp. But he feels confused over his attraction towards Mi Sun, his friend's younger sister. Sung Joo sees In Pyo enjoying himself with Mi Sun when she visits a nightclub with her fellow trainees. She breaks things off with him for his disloyalty. Sung Joo is dispatched to command head quarters of a female corps, and despite In Pyo's declaration of true love, she turns him away repeatedly. On her birthday, In Pyo runs into her barracks to declare his love for her again. She runs into his arms when after seeing him dragged away by the guards.
