Elite financial bureaucrat Takashi Arikawa (Kazuki Kitamura) hopes to one day become the Prime Minister. Takashi comes from an elite family, responsible for running hospitals all throughout Japan. He then becomes engaged to Naoko Shiroi (Misa Uehara), the daughter of a powerful government official whose family is in financial straits and seeks marriage to strengthen her family's financial base. Their engagement forces Takashi to end his 10 year relationship with Nobuko Sasayama (Eiko Koike), a woman who works as a currency dealer in a foreign bank and a woman who hoped to marry Takashi one day ....
