Nikaido Fumi is an actress and fashion model born in Naha-shi, Okinawa. She got off to an early start in show business at age 13, appearing in her first TV drama, Juken no Kamisama (2007). Just two years later she played Hikari in her first theatrically released feature film, actor-director Yakusho Koji ’s family comedy Toad’s Oil (2009), after which she was steadily cast in feature films and popular dramas.

She received the Premio Marcello Mastroianni Best Young Actress Award for her work in acclaimed Sono Shion's film Himizu at the 2011 Venice International Film Festival. She was awarded a Japan Academy Prize in 2013 as Rookie of the Year, having played significant roles in six different films between 2012-2013. In 2014, she starred in numerous critically praised films, as well as the drama Henshin opposite Kamiki Ryunosuke, and was introduced in Variety as one of the American magazine's "International Stars You Should Know" and the New York Asian Film Festival awarded her as an International Rising Star. She is currently studying policy management at the prestigious Keio University.
