Tsurumi made his debut at the age of 12 when he was selected from 2,582 applicants to play a role in the TV drama "Takenoko Sukusuku" (1977). After that, he appeared in NHK Taiga dramas as a child actor.

In 1987, he produced "Sotsugyo Proof" as a film producer, and became a hot topic as the youngest producer (at that time) in the history of commercial films.

In his private life, he married an ordinary woman in 2004.
