Austin Wai was a Chinese actor and action choreographer of Manchu descent, and the older brother of award-winning actress Kara Hui.

He trained at the Spring and Autumn Peking Opera Academy in Hong Kong, which was run by China's first female martial arts actress, Madame Fen Juhua. Wai started his on-screen career as a stuntman and martial arts extra in various 1970s Shaw Brothers kung fu films. His breakout acting role was in the Shaw Brothers martial arts comedy film Five Superfighters (1978), for which he was also an assistant action director. Wai was also known for his supporting roles in wuxia television series such as The Legend of the Condor Heroes (1983), The Return of Luk Siu Fung (1983), and The New Adventures Of Chor Lau Heung (1984). His action choreography work for the film Generation Pendragon (1999) was also recognized by a Best Action Choreography nomination at the 36th Golden Horse Awards.

Austin Wai passed away in Bejing on October 4th, 2012, at the age of 55. The cause of his death was confirmed to be excessive weight loss due to over exercising.
