Kris Wu is a Chinese actor. He was born Kevin Li Jia Heng in Guangzhou, Guangdong, China, Yi Fan also holds Canadian citizenship. He speaks fluent Cantonese, Mandarin, English, and Korean.
Yi Fan immigrated to Canada with his mom when he was 10 years old. In 2005 (age 15), he attended Guangzhou No.7 Middle School广州市第七中学 (9th grade) for a short period. He served as the captain at the school basketball team. The team won the 1st place in China Junior NBA tournament-South China Region that year. After that, he went back to Vancouver, Canada. In Canada, he attended Point Grey Secondary School and Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School in Vancouver, Canada and was the captain of the basketball teams for both these schools. He would have pursued a professional career in basketball.
In 2007, at age 16, Yi Fan auditioned for S.M. Entertainment's Canadian S.M. Global Auditions, which was held in Vancouver, British Columbia on October 14, 2007. He was attending Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School at the time of the casting. After passing the auditions, he moved to South Korea the following year and became an S.M. trainee. Prior to joining EXO, he made an appearance in an intermission video for the Girls' Generation Tour in 2011.
Yi Fan was introduced as the eleventh member of EXO on February 17, 2012.[3] While a member of EXO, he went by the stage name Kris. He was the leader and main rapper of EXO-M.
In May 15, 2014, Yi Fan filed a lawsuit against S.M. Entertainment to terminate his contract. The lawsuit arose from a disagreement with activities between himself and S.M. Entertainment. He has been inactive from EXO activities since his lawsuit.
On June 23rd, 2014, Xu Jinglei announced Yi Fan to be the leading actor for her new movie Somewhere Only We Know through her Weibo.
Since his lawsuit with S.M., he has become a solo artist. He sang the male version of the theme song - Shi Jian Zhu Yu (direct translation: Time Boils The Rain) for Guo Jingming's film Tiny Times 3. He also composed and sang There Is a Place, which is part of the OST for his first movie, Somewhere Only We Know, the song "Bad Girl" for his 25th birthday, and the song "Greenhouse Girl" as a part of the OST for the film Mr. Six, in which he plays a main role. In 2016, Kris Wu released the single "July," and in 2017, as a part of the OST for XxX: The Return of Xander Cage, Kris recorded the song "Juice."
Kris is now a Hollywood actor, appearing in XxX: The Return of Xander Cage as Nicky Zhou ("Nicks"), and in the 2017 upcoming film Valerian.
