This documentary is all about the protestors who try to disrupt the building of the new American base on Okinawa and the police response against it.
In December 2013, Okinawa Governor Hirokazu Nakaima approved a landfill proposal by the Japanese government to permit the construction of new military facilities in Henoko to replace Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, despite earlier campaign promises he had made to move the base outside of the prefecture all together. One year later, on November 16, 2014, Nakaima lost his bid for a second re-election, losing to former Naha mayor Takeshi Onaga.
While Nakaima supported the plan to move the Marine Corps Air Station Futenma base to Henoko Bay, Onaga opposed it and publicly proclaimed: «We won’t let the new Hennoko base to be built ». However, the Japanese Government decided to resume the construction work on the site, under the pretext that it had already been approved by the former governor.
This documentary covers the story of the 18 tumultuous months of Onaga governance and how the residents faced the base construction work. In October 2015, Onaga revoked the land reclamation permit needed for continued work on the base.
